When one finds the clip of the newscast from 1/20/12 … it is the same but brings up a different video.
To find the clip, one must be on the CBS website and go to the news segment specifically.
* I'll try to record the video later today. [DONE SEE ABOVE]Clip of Liberty begins at 15:18
Quote from Liberty Mayor Michael Sheriff:
"I don't feel Liberty invested in the future like I feel they should."

Thanks!
One thing confuses me, if our Mayor bragged during the campaign about 10 years of proven leadership with the council and has been Mayor Pro tem, then I don't understand the quote from him saying he doesn't feel Liberty invested in its future like he feels it should. Haven't the investments been a part of his leadership? Two mayors back brought in Liberty Denim and Ingles. Since Sheriff took office, Ingles has cut back on hours, and Liberty Denim has closed. Granted these are probably coincidences, but Sheriff makes strange statements here nonetheless.
I agree with anonymous, I also felt like the whole segment was a slap in the face to Liberty. Instaed of talking about things we should have done he should have talked about the positives that Liberty has to offer. There are severeal great compamies in Liberty that offer alot to the community and employee alot of Libertys residents. These companies range from screen printing, computer board design, medical field and the list goes on. Ive lived in Liberty my whole life and it bothers me to see our mayor not defend us or evn try to show our towns charm!
I was mostly surprised that it was promoted by the City of Liberty to watch … as if proud.
I just clicked on the link and saw nothing in the video about Liberty; just the state of South Carolina with a Lexington callout at the end. Maybe the link changed?
Why must this be a bash at the Mayor. He had nothing to do with what happened at liberty Denim. It is not his fault that all of those people lost their jobs. Also, on the ingles comment, he has nothing to do with that eaither! He is not the one that brings the money to that grocery store and he is not the one that charges rent and makes profit off that building. He spoke the truth. Liberty is a town that did not have the means to make changes at the time for growth and change. we are a small town that does the best we can with all of the companies that are established here.
I dont think anyone is bashing the mayor.
These were true statements.
The City has responsibility and ways to incentivize business.
Sheriff was on the City Council. From the minutes, you can see that he agreed with almost every vote.
When Ingles cut back on hours, they cut back on employment.
Liberty Denim was charged high water rates and high business license fees ~ by stipend from the City.
Sheriff advertised his campaign at a lot of businesses downtown and at Ingles shopping center. He bragged about bringing business here.
While I agree that the trimming may be coincidental, I think one thing is clear; Sheriff had nothing to brag about. He could only add what he had been a part of. He has been a major part of the decisions made in Liberty since it incorporated in 2000.
Proven Leadership? Indeed.
Neither the town of Liberty nor the Mayor of Liberty is responsible for the closing of Liberty Denim. The employees of Liberty Denim worked very hard to make this company a success. The owners is the guilty party here. Bad decisions on their part is what closed this mill! My only hope for my fellow workers from Liberty Denim is that they succeed where ever they go and that the owners of Liberty Denim have trouble sleeping every night for what they did to us and their customers!
