This morning I attended a meeting at Liberty Bell restaurant to hear Jeff Duncan discuss his campaign's focus on "illegal immigration" and to see him be endorsed by Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist.
Jeff's campaign wanted ATLIBERTYTOSAY.COM readers specifically to hear Gilchrist give the endorsement due to my mention of immigration issues on this site and during interviews and debates.
I asked Jeff Duncan how he expects cities like Liberty to have motivation to enforce "immigration laws" with restaurants such as Pancho's or Fiesta. I said that I wasn't insinuating that there were undocumented workers, but that I was relatively certain our local government wouldn't even think of asking for compliance because of the amount of hospitality tax (and even tourism) they bring in.
He stated that he expected Local and State governments to respect our sovereignty and to comply with the law. He said that if they want to to stay in business they'll come into compliance.
Jeff also reiterated his stance on what he calls "anchor babies" - which is a reference to the 14th amendment - allowing anyone born in this country to be a citizen. He says that if you are here illegally, then you didn't "earn" citizenship.
He finished by tying immigration law enforcement to welfare reform. He said with illegals taking up the $7-$10 an hour jobs - what is the incentive for anyone to do anything other than get a government handout that would pay about the same?
From Wikipedia:
The Minuteman Project is an activist organization started in April 2005 by a group of private individuals in the United States to monitor the United States–Mexico border's flow of illegal immigrants. Co-founded by Jim Gilchrist, the name derives from the Minutemen, militiamen who fought in the American Revolution. The Minuteman Project describes itself as "a citizens' Neighborhood Watch on our border", and has attracted media attention to illegal immigration.
