Residents within the city limits are not allowed to burn brush or trash ... but ... here's a creative way you can recycle and therefore not throw away as much ... helping Liberty to meet its recycling target.
You can burn cardboard boxes.
If you have a wood burning furnace you can burn boxes.
I used to make "starter logs" for my father for Christmas and his birthday.
I would take between 10 to 20 cereal boxes, flatten them, and roll them as tightly as I could, then tie a string in three places to hold it together. I would then take pecan shells that we had left over from shelling and fill the center. I would then soak this in water and let it dry ... this prevents unrolling.
Phone books also burn well.
It is estimated that phonebooks account for nearly 500,000 (FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND) pounds each year going into landfills.
Wait ... what's that you say about the ink or dyes being harmful to burn or bad for your chimney.
That use to be true, but now all printed matter is made of what is called bio-soluble inks, glues, and dyes.
This sounds like a bit of trouble to go to, but once you've used one of these logs - you'll be happy you discovered the tip.
Also, don't forget that ash from your wood burning stove makes PERFECT fertilizer and composting material.*
* Always dispose of ash properly
* All of the cereals in the picture above have box tops for education on them - please cut these off and send to your local school.
