Easley Progress & Pickens Sentinel Parent Company Files Bankruptcy Paperwork

One of the many reasons I started this site was to deliver Liberty residents news about our community faster than local news sources that often shaft our town - reporting event reminders days AFTER they happen and posting news that is sometimes a month or more old. Sometimes, they miss important news entirely.

It's no surprise that the two papers parent company, Heartland Publishing is currently under bankruptcy protection.

Heartland Publications, LLC, operates 50 paid-circulation newspapers in nine states including the Pickens Sentinel and Easley Progress.

As reported by The Easley Progress on the matter:

Michael Bush, President and CEO of Heartland Publications, LLC says,

“With the support of our senior lenders, we have voluntarily entered Chapter 11 as the best way to achieve the kind of balance sheet we will need for future growth. ... Our readers, advertisers, and other business associates will see no change in our day-to-day operations. ... Advertising contracts remain in effect, so no one will miss the weekly specials. The only thing that will change is that our parent company will have a better financial foundation, and that’s good news as far as we’re concerned.”
