Woman Involved In Liberty Area Animal Cruelty Case Also Dognapping?

A reader left a comment on the post "Liberty Woman Potential Suspect In Massive Animal Cruelty Charge":

It is terrible what people do to animals. What is even more terrible is that Animal Control will not let anyone who is missing a dog in that area even see the dogs. I have called several times to be told the dogs are involved in court case and can not be seen. I have been missing my dog since 11/3/09 and I live less than 3 miles from this womans location. I know of several more people who are missing their dogs from that area also chances are good that they could be among the seized animals. Our poor babies could be suffering instead home with us!

This comment has me thinking ... was this woman and her Animal Control husband potentially involved in a dognapping ring? I know from my childhood, we had to protect our Golden Retriever from the likes of dognappers wanting to use him for breeding. We had to treat him as if he were 5 $100 bills sitting in our yard. What a perfect front it would be for an Animal Control official to be a dognapper! This story is very tragic and disturbing.

I suggested the following:

I'm sorry you're facing this issue. Have you tried to call Liberty Animal Control or the Mayor Of Liberty to see if they could intervene?

* The case is being handled by Anderson County.

[UPDATE]

Wade Patterson, 40, and Faith Patterson, 26, living on Bagwell Road in Liberty, have each been charged with 92 cases of animal cruelty.

Wade Patterson, who is an Anderson County Animal Control Officer, along with his wife are believed to operate a pet adoption business called Bird Dog Pet Rescue at the home.

For his role, Wade Patterson has been placed on administrative leave from Anderson County while the investigation continues. Patterson was employed by the Anderson County Animal Shelter prior to taking the position of animal control officer about three and half years ago.

If the Pattersons are convicted, the couple could face fines up to $500 for each charge and up to 60 days in jail. Fines could reach $92,000 - a light penalty for such a grotesque act.

Dear Christine,

I mentioned it to Pickens County Council too. They said it was out of their jurisdiction to take care of it. I will mention it again at the January meeting. Could you please come to the Pickens County Council meeting in January? I will stand up with you to address the issue.

Hi Philip--I too think that my JR Terrier is with these group--she disappeared just before the story broke--when is the meeting--I would love to be there too. Christine and I are communicating about this issue. Sure it may be out of the PCC jurisdiction--but should there be someone to come to the aid of their residence--afterall--we are taxpayers and in the same state. Thanks, Barb Levering

I would be happy to stand up with the two of you (and if you can get more do so)

This and another issue concerning a memorial on 178 - I was told was out of jurisdiction. On both issues I have contacted every possible government agency and code enforcement officer I possibly can - to no avail.

If you are willing to participate in a sort of vigilantism that I can report on - we'll go next week to where the animals are being held and I'll call some media contacts to come with us.

Philip--I will be glad to be part of anything that will get the animals back to their homes--so we should come to the end of Jan meeting--not tonight??
thanks for being a person that will try to help. Barb
