Tonight, I went to the November Liberty City Council meeting to re-introduce my website and get caught up with the "goings on" in Liberty.
As last month, I was surprised at how few people were there.
The issues discussed:
• Recycling / Trash issues
- Mayor Deese stated that he would like to get the word out that "free to the public" recycling bins are available at city hall.
- One person in attendance recommended placing recycle containers at the rec dept areas and fields.
- Trash pickup near Southern Vinyl and Northland Cable building taken care of
- Councilman Yates said the county is going to have to help us out if they want better recycling.
- Councilman McJunkin said that the county recycling does a poor job of driving the trucks and aren't exactly punctual.
- Councilman Clark suggested that the Boy Scouts get out the recycling message.
- Councilman Clark quipped that the city has conflicting messages on what is to be recycled and asked that the city get clarification.
- Two reminders:
• Police Chief Miller said that election results are a sort of report card and each that ran, won by a large margin; so that means the citizens think something is being done right.
• Fire Dept Chief said fires for October 2008 were 34 / October 2009 fire total was 36
• Water lines discussed
• Working with Habitat For Humanity discussed
• Rennovations of bathrooms at Liberty Rec gym completed
• Deese is working with Rec head Boiter on getting a few baseball tournaments in town
• Brian Petersen asked us to remember Veterans Day (Wednesday November 11, 2009)
- Deese added that Liberty High School is doing something for Vets Day at 8am
• Councilman Yates commended cleanup efforts he recommended last month
• Councilman Yates wished everybody a Happy Thanksgiving
• Councilman Harrison congratulated Yates and Deese on their wins in the election
• Deese congratulated everyone and said he looks forward to the next four years
• Councilman McJunkin commended council on not raising taxes and suggested that we control spending. Deese reaffirmed.
• Deese wished everyone a Happy Holiday Season.
I said this last month, but it does need repeating ... I would encourage every person in Liberty to attend at least ONE city council meeting - even if you find politics boring. It is an interesting experience.
Hi to all City Council Members if you're reading this ... I would like to do an interview with you soon.

After much thought, I decided to respond to the published remarks from some on this site. In response to councilman Yates remark about recycling. Why should the county be required to do your job of encouraging City residence to recycle? What do you plan to do by being a City Council member and leader in the community? What have you done in the past to promote recycling?
In regards to what the Police chief had to say about how people are satisified with the voters outcome I wonder if he ever checked out the flaws in the voting system. I had confirmed over 217 names of voters who in a survey either lied or the flaws didn't tell the truth one since I wound up with only 111 votes overall. I know the 217 votes still left me loseing and I congradulate the winner but to make a sarcastic remark about the votes was very unprofessional for the Inside Police Chief who no one can identify anyway.
I don't know what councilmen have done ...
I have posted info in this site.
I think everyone in Liberty has seen my wife, son , and I picking up trash.
My son and I just took 3 bags of cans to C&S recycling in Norris and made $5.50.
We also compost.
The thing that interests me the most about the "recycling comments" is ... Our city is about to be charged $1000's by the county and many in Liberty don't understand that. It is close to emergency time ... the shortfall will passed along in higher sewer rates ... Guaranteed!
As for the remarks by the police chief - I felt they were a little over the top. A congratulations woulda been poignant.
