About the President's speech today ...

If I had to identify myself absolutely politically ... I'd most likely say I'm a true independent. If someone cornered me into one of the two national political parties - I would say, "Im Republican." If someone asked me what type of Republican I am, I'd say, "Conservative." With that said, I can't understand why anyone is upset that President Obama is delivering a message to the nation's school children today. It's a good message ... a message that adults need to hear too.

The thing that really irks me about this "uproar about Obama delivering this speech" is that I've seen a woman on TV news crying ... saying that she thinks her children are going to be brainwashed.

Last night, I heard a US Senator say that he doesn't think "our school children's time should be spent in this way and that's it's a distraction."

Let me address that ...

On Day 2 of school ... let me repeat ... On Day 2 of school at Liberty Elementary my son was called to the cafeteria and given a 45 minute sales pitch about fundraisers for the school - selling things like jewelry, wrapping paper, and worthless knick knacks and trinkets ... you know the kind of thing that they are suppose to pitch to relatives to make them feel sorry (or proud) that they are swindled into the sales of a product ... the kind of sale where children have to go door to door to neighbors and pitch them junk that they don't need, don't want, or can't afford ... but again the compassion kicks in ... like a Girl Scout cookie salesgirl at your door.

THIS IS A DISTRACTION TO HIS LEARNING.

During this sales pitch the company that "runs the fund raiser" sent a greasy car salesman like person to tell the kids all the great prizes they could get if they sell 10 things, 25 things, 50 things, 75 things, or even be a platinum seller and sell 100 things. The "100 things prize" was a knockoff el cheapo iPod Touch look-a-like that retails in discount stores for $30. Selling 100 items would be a minimum of $500 - so that makes this prize less than 10 % - wow what a sales commission! What does that teach our children?

THE FULL TEXT: President Obama's 2009 Back To School Speech

The general gist of this ten minute speech is summed up by this part:

... at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world – and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.

There are no politics in this speech ... there's no mention of health care reform, there's no mention of becoming a democrat, there's no communication to children that you should expect 10% commissions and 90/10 (not in your favor) splits for the rest of your life - it's simple .... it's about taking responsibility ... what more of us need to do.

The people that are complaining are showing that we shouldn't respect authority and we shouldn't appreciate responsibility.

I wonder if those parents that are complaining ... around their children ... would like it if they knew their children were saying, "My parents gave me a speech about making good grades last night ... yeah it was a brainwashing!"

One more related item ...

Yesterday, while shopping my son and I noticed this sticker on the back of an SUV in a parking lot ...

This is not only distasteful, it's disrespectful ... I'm not for it being censored ... I just think it takes a sick mind to put something like this on their vehicle ... no matter what this person had to tell me about any subject ... I wouldn't want to listen.

My wife said that one would assume I voted for Obama by the looks of this article ... yes ... one might assume that ... but they may be wrong.
